Sukhavati Network — The Storage Gateway

Across crypto twitter, you’ll often find maxis hiding behind PFPs arguing that their Layer 1 chain is better than someone else’s.

Many of the more respected thought leaders, however, have noted that we will likely build an ecosystem where many Layer 1’s exist alongside each other. ETH and DOT and SOL are not necessarily out to make the other obsolete; they can coexist.

The same is certainly true of the storage protocols. In addition to Sukhavati, there are Filecoin, Arweave, Sia, Storj, Swarm, just to name a few.

We at Sukahvati do not think that this is such a bad thing. Just as a rising tide can lift all boats, so too can more activity in the crypto storage space lead to more user adoption and better product delivery to the market.

In fact, in addition to providing its own storage network, Sukhavati Labs is developing a Storage Gateway Service that connects to other leading storage networks.

We can imagine dApps where a variety of storage services will be needed. There may be some content that needs hot storage, some content that needs permanent storage, and some specialized storage applications that need large scale storage capability with zero knowledge proof encryption. Instead of having to access different storage needs one by one, dApp developers can simply turn to Sukhavati’s storage gateway to help them manage the storage lifecycle of a product or service.

Sukhavati can also serve as a what we call a “bridge storage provider” for data. That is, data storage on Arweave or Filecoin may ultimately be needed, but not now and instead at a later date. The cost of using SKT’s storage layer will be lower than Filecoin and Arweave, and at the same time, Sukhavati provides the ability to verify the content (through Content Identifiers, CIDs, stored on chain). Therefore, Sukhavati is more suitable for developers whose projects, whether dApps or NFT projects, remain at an early stage of development.

NFTs are great examples; it would be very expensive to store all the content of a NFT mint on chain right from the beginning of its launch. Many NFT projects do not have enough funds to store their content in a trustless manner. So projects tend to store the metadata of the NFTs on a completely centralized server, which is susceptible to tampering, or even destruction. This is where SKT’s storage layer can provide a valuable service to the web3 ecosystem. When dApps and NFT projects grow larger and more mature and need to shift to permanent storage for some of their content, they will be able to seamlessly move content to Arweave from SKT.

Sukhavati as a data “bridge” or gateway is only one use case we foresee for our storage protocol. We look forward to sharing several other use cases with you in the coming weeks and months as our mainnet beta goes live.

About Sukhavati Network

Sukhavati Network is a decentralized cloud network service that is focused on storage. The network is built on hardware-based Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and the Substrate framework to inspire and incentivize improvements on distributed storage ecosystems.

Sukhavati creates a decentralized gateway that covers both Web 3.0 and Web 2.0 storage services. It allows unified data storage, retrieval, and management on Web 3.0 applications.
